Tile Adhesive for concrete sub-floors Ardex-flex 5001 is a cement-based, flexible floor tile adhesive, specifically formulated to have enhanced properties of adhesion and flexibility. It is suitable for fixing all types of ceramic tiles in internal and external situations. Supplied in 22kg bags, the Ardex-flex 5001 powder requires 8 litres of water to make approximately 20kg of mortar. This will be sufficient for approximately 6.6 square metres of solid 3mm bed of adhesive. |

Latex sub-floor smoothing compound A latex floor leveller compound can be used to prepare a poor sub-floor ready to accept a the electric underfloor heating system. Or, it can be used over the top of heating cables of mats. The heating mat is less likely to be damaged before and during the process of laying tiles. The main benefit is that a cracked or damaged tile can be removed or replaced with little likelihood of damaging the heating mat. A flexible polymer modified 2-part leveller compound performs better in our experience than a simple aqueous based system and is therefore strongly recommended. Cheap materials do not usually provide satisfactory results and any temptation to use them should be avoided. Caution: the latex floor leveller has a very short working time ( about 30 min) and it can suddenly start to cure, causing difficulties for the inexperienced floor layer. |
